MCLEA 2018 Candidate Endorsement Recommendations

After much consideration and debate, the MCLEA Officers and Board of Directors recommend the following candidates for endorsement;

County Judge: Craig Doyal

Mr. Doyal has shown his support in the past for our membership, most recently by supporting the return of our STEP plan to its original iteration. With his support, we were able have your STEP increase effective on the anniversary of your date of hire, rather than the following budget year. Mr. Doyal has stated that he would not consider decreasing the county’s contribution to our retirement. This is a stark contrast to his opponent, Mr. Mark Keough, who has not only expressed his willingness to do so, but has also indicated that we should simply be grateful to be public servants. He alluded to the fact he would be willing to reduce retirement rates for new hires. This would devastate recruiting, which in turn, could hinder promotions for you down the line.

 County Commissioner (by Precinct):

Precinct 2:  Greg Parker

Mr. Parker has prior experience as a County Commissioner after serving two terms in Comal County, TX, and brings the diversity of that experience to Montgomery County. Mr. Parker worked with Comal County officials to lower the tax rate twice while he was in office, and states that he believes in cutting spending while still boosting core county functions, including law enforcement.

Precinct 4: James Metts

Currently the Justice of the Peace in Precinct 4, Mr. Metts is intimately familiar with the issues in Montgomery County, particularly with those of law enforcement. Mr. Metts has long been a supporter of our officers in this county and has earned a great reputation among those who have dealt with him both in his court, as well as on crime scenes. We believe that Mr. Metts would continue this support as the Pct. 4 Commissioner, and is our recommendation for endorsement.

County Treasurer:  Stephanne Davenport

After much deliberation, we have decided to recommend Stephanne Davenport for County Treasurer. While her opponent appears to have the qualifications necessary to do the job, Mrs. Davenport has proven her ability to lower her department’s operating costs and has shown her willingness to work with our Association during the STEP plan project. Mrs. Davenport met with the MCLEA Administration and expressed her willingness to publicly support the change to Commissioner’s Court alongside Ms. Carol Thompson and MCLEA.

221st District Court: Lisa Michalk (Unopposed)

Recommended for endorsement by the Board of Directors due to history of support for Law Enforcement

359th District Court: Kathleen Hamilton (Unopposed)

Recommended for endorsement by the Board of Directors due to history of support for Law Enforcement

284th District Court: Jo Anne Linzer

Ms. Linzer is very familiar with the court system in Montgomery County, having served many years as one of our Assistant District Attorney’s. Ms. Linzer has expressed her support for law enforcement, and intends to return the 284th District Court to a dual-purpose court; civil and criminal. This will lessen the load on the other criminal courts, leading to quicker trial dates that will help expedite our goals as law enforcement.

Judge, County Court-at-Law No.1: Dennis Watson (Unopposed)

Recommended for endorsement by the Board of Directors due to history of support for Law Enforcement

Judge, County Court-at-Law No.2: Claudia Laird (Unopposed)

Recommended for endorsement by the Board of Directors due to history of support for Law Enforcement

Judge, County Court-at-Law No.3: Patrice McDonald (Unopposed)

Recommended for endorsement by the Board of Directors due to history of support for Law Enforcement

Judge, County Court-at-Law No.4: Mary Ann Turner (Unopposed)

Recommended for endorsement by the Board of Directors due to history of support for Law Enforcement

Justice of the Peace (by Precinct):

Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1: Wayne Mack (Unopposed)

Recommended for endorsement by the Board of Directors due to history of support for Law Enforcement

Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2: G. Trey Spikes (Unopposed)

Recommended for endorsement by the Board of Directors due to history of support for Law Enforcement

Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3: Dan Zientek.

Mr. Zientek has significant experience in many of the tasks of Justice of the Peace. Mr.  Zientek has graduated from the FBI National Academy, has 26 years of law enforcement experience, and clearly supports the role of MCLEA as he is a current member. Mr. Zientek is uniquely qualified for the role Justices of the Peace play in death investigations as a former Homicide Investigator.

Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4: Jason Dunn

Mr. Dunn has over 20 years’ experience as a police officer with the Houston Police Department, and therefore has a good idea of the issues that present themselves to us in our job. He is also deeply rooted in East Montgomery County, having graduated from the New Caney High School, and has served in numerous capacities with civic organizations there.  After much research and listening to Mr. Dunn and his opponent, Ronald Willingham, speak at the forum, the MCLEA Board of Directors recommend Jason Dunn for endorsement.

Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5: Matt Masden (Unopposed)

Recommended for endorsement by the Board of Directors due to history of support for Law Enforcement
